Open Doors

Open Doors

God doesn’t open doors on demand.  He opens doors for His purposes. Years ago I desperately wanted to change my teaching situation. I came across a job opening that appeared absolutely perfect. It mirrored exactly what I envisioned my next career step might be. I was thrilled. I could use the skills I was best at and enjoyed most. This match was too great not to pursue. I visualized all the ideas and experience I could offer in my new assignment as a reading specialist as if I were already there. I prayed for Jesus to guide me during the interview and to provide that job for me. Friends prayed with me to affirm that this was what God would choose for me. One dear wise friend prayed that God would open the door to the place He intended for me to be and that I would feel His presence wherever He placed me. I was so disappointed that she didn’t ask God to provide me the specific teaching position I wanted. My other friends prayed that I would be given what I desired. She prayed only for God’s will. Later I came to understand that she was able to seek the Lord for me in a more accepting manner and honor His sovereignty.

The teaching job went to someone else. I was entrusted with an enduring lesson about God’s provision and patience with me. He worked in and through me while I remained in my familiar classroom environment. A beautiful 3 year old child from Ireland joined my class the next year. Donnacha immediately stole a piece of my heart. He displayed developmental delays and was not yet speaking. He was busy, curious, and noisy. My experience showed me that despite delays Donnacha was an exceptionally bright child who would flourish given correct teaching methods. The Lord brought this family here for 2 years on a work exchange with Intel. Donnacha’s parents expressed concern about the stigma and prejudice he could face when they returned to Ireland. God gave me two years with Donnacha in my classroom. He returned to Ireland to join his typical peers in a regular school program.  God opened a door for Donnacha and for me to display His compassion for us both.

Because I love Jesus, my life and teaching career are not directed by my will alone. I praise God that He didn’t allow me to walk through doors without Him. He had His hand on marvelous details that He alone orchestrated behind the scenes. Growing up in faith gave me the understanding that it isn’t my own work but rather His work that pleases Him most and opens the door to His blessing.

Savior In A Manger

SAVIOR IN A MANGER

Son of God Most High
Angels sing the Savior’s song
Visions of God’s love
In a dusty stall
On a Holy Baby’s head
Rests the Light of God
Inviting lost souls
Needy, searching, grieving ones
A blessed word of hope
Messiah offers
A message of holy love
Now made known to all
God’s Son clothed in flesh
Each day speaks the Living Word
Raising death to life

Offering of Joy

Offering of Joy

Blessings come through tears
My joy is an offering
Lifting praise to God

Grief does not persist
Joy brings fragrant offerings
Trusting God is close

Joy becomes my gift
To honor God who keeps me
Worshipping His name

Leaning on my Lord
Thinking of a soul now free
Joy is finding me

Handing me His peace
Jesus is my source of joy
Offered back to Him

Everyday Faith

Each of us make daily decisions about fear and faith. I strive to live by everyday faith.

Everyday faith appreciates that the sun comes up every morning. The beautiful bright yellow glow that pleases and teases your eyes awake. A blazing warm ball of fire that makes your skin tingle. Today is waiting. The sun promises a fresh start.

Everyday faith understands that truth is stronger than falsehood. Truth us unyielding. It will chisel through dense layers of lies like water through sandstone cliffs until it is visible and acknowledged. People rejoice when truth is proclaimed.

Everyday faith recognizes that the welcome smile of a worthy friend can be trusted. No need to take cover behind a mask and pretend. Your “real” is cherished and is good enough. The gift of safety and acceptance for those who are wise and receive it.

Everyday faith realizes that love overrules fear. A father’s love pushes beyond fear as he rushes into a house engulfed in flames to rescue his daughter left trapped inside. Jesus our Savior stands before God to give His life to rescue believers from the penalty of sin.

Everyday faith acknowledges that a person’s worth is given by their Creator and not determined by status, wealth, or beauty to be judged by another. Value is created in fellowship alone with God. His words speak of love and become a treasured gift that continues to live and dwell deep within you.

Everyday faith meets despair with courage and faces the dark with the light of God within. God’s love becomes the harness and rope securing me as I inch up the sheer rocky cliff. God’s face shines to guide me safely out of the canyon of despair.

Everyday faith knows that success is determined more by His spirit than by abilities or intellect. True success is not about what you do. Success comes from what God does in you. Acknowledge that every breath you take is a gift given by the God who made you.

Everyday faith patiently waits for tears to turn to laughter and sadness to give way to joy. In faith we see a piece of what God envisions and experience His goodness in hard times. God’s presence leaves gifts of gladness and a spirit filled with peace as we abide in Him.

Strive to live by everyday faith … everyday.

And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.”  Luke 17:5 NIV

Love One Sided

Love One Sided

God’s love for you is one-sided. It is His decision to love.  Your first heartbeat while in your mother’s womb filled Him with great joy. You were created by Him because He wanted you to experience His perfect love for you.

God excels in the details. He knows your name. He blessed the day you were born and plans when you will return to Him.  He knows the number of hairs on your head and assigns you fingerprints that will remain yours alone. Each day He listens to the steady rhythm of your heartbeat and smells the sacred scent of your breath. He designed the unique shape and color of your eyes and sculpted your personal smile. God’s heart dwells deep within your thoughts, joys and fears. God loves every intricate part of you completely, no changes required, no strings attached. He adores you and He made you with great intention to love you unconditionally and for eternity.

God covers you in love as fur covers an animal to offer  protection and comfort.  He intervenes with His strong righteous right hand to protect you from enemies who prove too strong for you. God’s grace provides forgiveness for the sins that entangle you and prepares you to see His glory in heaven. God delights to heal your body from illness, your mind from falsehood, and your soul from emptiness.  His love gives holy comfort and peace that come from Him alone.

This is Love One Sided. It is given by the God Who Is Love.

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.  God is love.  Whoever lives in love lives in God and God in them.                1 John 4:16
